The screen going black
- Entering the Broken Fortress, and dying, could leave you with a black screen while the game carried on underneath — your health, your map and the enemy you were fighting all still there, and nothing visible. Two separate causes were found, and both are fixed.
- The first: when a scripted camera hands control back to you, it handed back only *if* your character existed that frame — but it destroyed itself either way. One unlucky frame and the game was looking through a camera that no longer existed.
- The second: every fade to black trusts something else to fade it back in. If the thing that owed you the fade-in was gone — because you died mid-transition — nothing ever cleared it. Respawning now clears it unconditionally, and anything black for longer than it should be clears itself.
Corrections to the last patch
- Your hero carries his light again. It was switched off in the last patch, and that was a mistake: the bright edge in the picture that prompted it turned out to be a brazier, not your hero. It is back at the dim setting you approved.
- The outline ships as well, and it does what it was always for — finding your hero when he is completely behind something. It is not a light and never was, so it comes in alongside your lamp rather than instead of it.
Weapons and sound
- The blacksmith's sword is the right way up. The hand was closed on the bare blade with the crossguard two-thirds of the way up it. The same fix repairs a second sword found deeper in the act.
- Sound has distance now. Nothing in the game had any falloff — every attack, growl and death anywhere in the level reached you at full volume, which is why a wolf stuck behind a rock could follow you across the map. Sounds now fade with distance and sit where they come from.
Known Issues
- Corvain's voice changes between chapters. The cause is found — his lines were recorded in five separate sittings and each produced a different performer — and the fix is in hand.
- The healer's voice changes for a few lines in the same way.
- Female heroes still read too masculine in the face.
- Armour past level 13 falls back to a generic set, which is also why it can show skin through it. New armour is being made.
- Some NPCs still slide their feet where they stand.
- The town floor still shows its seams.
- Another axe is held wrongly — a different one from the starting axe, which was fixed.
- Men's body and face shape sliders are not in yet.
