The hero creator
- A new look. The creator is rebuilt: the steps run along the top, one slim panel holds your choices in sections you fold open, and the hero gets the rest of the screen.
- Hair, beards and moustaches. Heroes are no longer bald. Pick a style, a beard and a moustache, or go shaved, and colour them from raven black to bone white. Your choices now stay with the hero in town and in the Broken Fortress.
- Turn and zoom. Drag your hero to turn them, and scroll to zoom.
- Here stands your name. The final step carves your hero's name into stone. Stuck for one? The die picks a name for you.
- Choices that could not show on the hero yet are hidden until they can.
Ashenmoor and the land
- A new opening. The first night now plays out from the game's own view over the fountain: plague rats come from every side and throw themselves into the water, with a sound you will not forget.
- Mossy stone. Every rock in the Starting Lands is replaced with detailed moss-grown stone, from small clusters to great outcrops.
- Real items on the ground. Gold now drops as a coin pouch, draughts as flasks, and amulets and rings as themselves.
- Drop your gear. Drag an item off the character sheet, or hover it and press X, to leave it on the ground.
The Broken Fortress
- Know how many remain. Each depth shows how many elites are still alive, and tells you when the way down is open.
- On the map. The dungeon entrance, bosses and elites are marked once you have explored their area.
- The entrance arch into the Broken Fortress now stands where the way down begins, with the clutter around it cleared.
- The shrine back to Ashenmoor is turned so its steps lead down, and moved clear of the dead tree.
- Every boss in the game has been tested from start to finish: every phase, ability, warning and reward.
Quests and the map
- The main story stands out. The primary quest chain is shown in blood red in the tracker, the quest log and on the map, and its objectives are marked on the map.
- The Weeping Mines can be completed. Slaying the Gravewright now counts for the quest.
- The Inventory, Quests and Skills buttons on the map work.
Effects
- Warning circles are clean rings with no white blobs on their edge.
- Explosions, roars and blood sparks no longer flash a bright white disc.
- Blood beams and blood bolts no longer burn a glowing ball into the target.
- Stone chips thrown by heavy blows are real rock.
Fixes
- Custom skill keys work. Rebinding skills to other keys, such as 1 to 4, no longer fires the first skill every time, and those keys no longer spend Marks by accident.
- People you talk to are shown in the conversation window again, lit to match the night instead of glowing.
- Houses no longer lose parts of their roofs after you close the map.
- A new hero starts a new story from the beginning instead of where your last hero stood.
- The Shadow Portal explains that it cannot reach Ashenmoor from inside the Broken Fortress, instead of claiming you are already in town.
Known Issues
- Weather and rain are on their way.
- Too much loot from ordinary monsters and a way to unspend skill points are being worked on.
- Women heroes have no hair styles yet; more styles for everyone are coming.
